I was looking around the meetup.com to see what else was happening 'down' here and was really please to see that Heidi Joubert had re-located to Cornwall and had started a Meetup Group to teach the Cajon so instantly signed up for that group & hope some others do so soon. If you don't know who Heidi Joubert is, a quick Google will provide loads of interesting links like the one from Tom Tom Magazine from 2013.
I really enjoy listening to a good percussionist and have always wanted to play something - be great if I could sing, the voice perhaps being the purest instrument of them all, but my singing only sounds good in my head, others are always less than impressed and I really do know I sound awful! I'm don't feel I've really any inherent musical ability I've always owned a guitar of some description, but I don't have the will power to set aside the time to practice, so it spends most of it's time hanging on the wall. I also own a couple of percussion instrument, one being a Cajon ('ka-hon') but this tends to get used as an occasional seat or table. I've also got a custom built (courtesy of Brendan White) tuneable Bodhran ('bo-ran') or better know as a traditional Irish frame drum. Either way being rhythmically challenged I'm hoping some good tuition on the Cajon, will be transferable to the Bodhran as well...the beauty if instruments like the Cajon & Bodhran is the are not space intensive, don't require high levels of investment - though as with all things you can spend a fortune if you wanted to - can be played without amplification and can be used in many musical genres, especially true of the Cajon. Anyway lets hope Heidi has better luck with her group than I've had with my Studio Photography one!
