So what do I think after a week of ownership? It is as I suspected it would be a bit of a 'love/hate' relationship with perhaps the 'love' side just winning through! Image quality, manual control features are great which is perhaps the main things I'd want. Build quality is in the main very good, but not IMO exceptional as well. I very much like the manual zoom ring on the lens, but dislike the fact that it turns (wide > tele) the wrong way compared to all other lenses I've used! Battery life is abysmal in comparison to my DSLR, but this is a factor of the small form factor - I'm also told that this will improve with use, though I've bought two spares to carry - they are tiny each smaller than 2 compact flash cards sandwiched together. The supplied 'neck' strap is for a child and certainly not for someone of my portly proportions, so will need to get something else (old Pentax SLR strap being used at the mo'). Whilst talking about size for what is packaged within this camera it is small, yes big for a compact but still small. Actually, I'd like the same camera just about a third the size larger as I do find it rather cramped to hold and have the 'right' buttons fall to hand - keep hitting the 'wrong' ones and it feels totally unnatural to get to the 'right' ones, big hands, small camera. But for many there is a feeling that it's is a bit too big for a compact! For me the biggest negative issue is the shear complexity of available options crammed into this package, which added to the less than helpful manual has lead on occasions to a bit of head scratching on my part. Loads of functions I don't think I'll ever use and a menu system that seem totally unintuitive. But all said and done, the weeks trial period is nearly up and I shan't be returning it to Fuji - so as I said more positive than negative. :-)
Bits I'm most enjoying - the Panorama function, the Len's astonishing 'macro' capability, with it able to focus to 1cm and the stunning colours straight out of the camera.
